About Us

Welcome to the University of Oklahoma Student Chapter of the American Meteorological Society & National Weather Association!

WHAT IS OU SCAN?

OU SCAN is an independent student-run organization at the University of Oklahoma. The purpose of this organization is to provide educational, professional, social, and service opportunities for University of Oklahoma students interested in meteorology. It is also meant to provide community awareness regarding weather. Monthly meetings will be held during the semester on the second Tuesday of the month at 6:30 p.m. At these meetings students will hear from a speaker from the meteorological community, as well as go over details for upcoming events, whether they be social or service events.

HOW DO I JOIN?

Joining is simple! All you have to do to become a member is attend a meeting and pay dues.

Dues for 2018-2019:

One Semester: $15
Full Year: $25

WHO CAN JOIN?

Anyone! It doesn’t matter what your major is or what year you are. If you’re interested in weather, come to a meeting!

WHY SHOULD I JOIN?

1. At the monthly meetings, you’ll hear from someone in the meteorological community and learn about how they got to where they are now and what they do. Afterwards, you’ll have the opportunity to go up, introduce yourself, and ask questions.

2. You can help to promote public awareness regarding severe weather by joining the OU SCAN Outreach Committee. These students give presentations at local elementary schools, as well as attend public weather awareness events in the community. Did we mention that they dress as superheroes? 3. Members are given opportunities to do community service by volunteering at events such as National Weather Festival in the fall or OU’s Big Event in the spring.

4. There are monthly social events held for the sole purpose of getting members together to spend time with one another and just have fun. What better way to get to know your peers?
